Outdoor Immersion was featured by WPXI-TV as part of the station’s ongoing effort to break the stigma surrounding mental health.
The story follows a group of veterans participating in one of Outdoor Immersion’s weekly hikes. These hikes offer more than physical activity. They give veterans an opportunity to step away from everyday stress, experience the peace of God’s creation, and connect with people who understand many of the challenges they have faced.
The WPXI feature also shares the story of Outdoor Immersion founder Jim Skal and the calling that led him to begin the organization. What started as a passion for faith, fitness, teaching, and the outdoors has grown into a community serving hundreds of veterans.
For many participants, the greatest impact comes from realizing that they are not alone. Time on the trail creates space for honest conversations, renewed purpose, and friendships built through shared experiences.
We are thankful to WPXI for helping share our mission with the Pittsburgh community.
